Chelsea And Mourinho On This Day 2015

The greatest manager in the history of Chelsea Football Club, Jose Mourinho had a bitter end to his tenure at the club which was very close to his heart as the club sacked him for the second time on December 17, 2015. He was sacked only a year after he led the club to a historic double, winning the Premier League title by eight points while also leading them to a League Cup triumph against Tottenham Hotspur.
Jose Mourinho was sacked after a run of poor results with the English giants seriously threatened by the prospect of relegation. The club had lost 9 of their opening 16 games and were languishing at the 16th position on the table. The move turned out to be a highly controversial decision with the fans turning on the board, especially technical director Michael Emenalo. They also turned on many players, especially Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa, branding them 'rats' of the dressing room.
Chelsea released a statement saying, "Chelsea Football Club and Jose Mourinho have today parted company by mutual consent. All at Chelsea thank Jose for his immense contribution since he returned as manager in the summer of 2013. His three league titles, FA Cup, Community Shield and three League Cup wins over two spells make him the most successful manager in our 110-year history. But both Jose and the board agreed results have not been good enough this season and believe it is in the best interests of both parties to go our separate ways. The club wishes to make clear Jose leaves us on good terms and will always remain a much-loved, respected and significant figure at Chelsea. His legacy at Stamford Bridge and in England has long been guaranteed and he will always be warmly welcomed back to Stamford Bridge."
Michael Emenalo also later gave an interview which became highly controversial, saying there was a 'palpable discord' between Mourinho and the players.
Jose Mourinho had two spells at Chelsea which brought the club out from obscurity and on to the global map. He first led the club from 2004 to 2007 and then from 2013 to 2015. He won three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, one Community Shield and three League Cups at Chelsea. This has solidified his legacy, no matter what, as the greatest manager in the history of the club.
Mourinho would later move to Manchester United, where he is still the manager. Chelsea would appoint Guus Hiddink on an interim basis and would finish the season in 10th position. They would later appoint Antonio Conte on a full-time basis and he would bring immediate success to the club, winning the Premier League title in his maiden season at the club.
