Mourinho Warns Manchester United About Manchester City Spending

Jose Mourinho has sent serious warning his Manchester United board that he needs another summer of heavy spending if the Red Devils are to compete with arc-rival Manchester City in the summer.
Red Devils are 16 points behind Cityzen in the Premier League while Pep Guardiola has already lifted the Carabao Cup and guided his team into the quarter-finals of the Champions League and could win the title when they host Manchester United in three weeks time at the Etihad.
Manchester United crashed out of the Champions League after a humiliating defeat to Sevilla on Wednesday and the FA Cup is the club’s only remaining opportunity for silverware ahead of Saturday's quarter-final clash with Brighton at Old Trafford.
The 55-year-old Portuguese coach have spent £300million on new players since taking over in the summer of 2016, Mourinho admits that he is still playing catch-up with Guardiola because of the squad he inherited at United.
"We will try but the reality is that some clubs, they were more ready to win,’ said Mourinho.
"One thing is to go for the jugular and another is to build in a different process. If the clubs that are in a better situation than us and stop investing and we invest then we are side to side.
"But if they are in a better situation and keep investing same or more, it’s difficult.’
"In the last seven years Manchester City were champions twice — and if you want to say three times because they will be in a few more weeks — and they were second twice. That's heritage.
"Do you know what is also heritage? It's that (Nicolas) Otamendi, Kevin De Bruyne, Fernandinho, (David) Silva, (Raheem) Sterling, (Sergio) Aguero, they are investments from the past. Not from the last two years.'
Asked if he is concerned that he may never catch City, Mourinho replied: 'I'm not saying that.'
Manchester United take on Brighton at Old Trafford for a place in the FA Cup semi-finals and Mourinho could make a number of changes to his side that lost 2-1 to Sevilla.
