Nigerian Players Abroad Round-Up

It was another weekend that saw several Nigerian players abroad either being in the thick of things on the pitch for their clubs, or just sitting on the bench and watching proceedings or worse still, not even being listed.
Whichever case it is, we take a look at how the weekend panned out for some of the Nigerian players abroad over the weekend. Enjoy.

Russia
Ahmed Musa put up an impressive display for CSKA Moscow as they thrashed Akhmat Grozny 3-0 away from home. Although the Nigeria international failed to find the back of the net, he played for the entire duration of the match.
But it wasn’t the same story for Aaron Samuel – on loan from CSKA Moscow – as he fired blanks for Amker Perm, despite playing for 90 minutes in their 2-0 home defeat to Arsenal Tula. In the same game, Fegor Ogude lasted just two minutes as he compounded Amker’s woes, being sent off in the 76th minute after being introduced in the 74th.
Fatai Kehinde started and played for 46 minutes for Ufa, as they beat Anzhi Makachkala 3-2, but Sylvester Igboun was not listed for the home side, Ufa.

Belgium
Taiwo Awoniyi was out through suspension as his Royal Mouscron side were hammered 4-0 at KAS Eupen. Elsewhere, Super Eagles winger Moses Simon was on from start to finish for Gent but fired blanks as they 2-1 at Genk. It was a different story for teammate and compatriot, Samuel Kalu, however, as the youngster found the back of the net in the 76th minute, before being replaced in the 81st.
Still in Belgium, former junior international Abdul Ajagun received a seventh minute yellow card while playing for Kortrijk in their 2-0 defeat of Charleroi. The Nigerian lasted for the whole duration of the game.
Peter Olayinka scored his eighth goal of the season for Zulte Waregem and lasted for 90 minutes as they beat Lokeren 2-0 away from home. Similarly, Joseph Akpala scored for Oostende and lasted the entirety of the match, but his goal was insufficient as they lost 2-3 at home to Standard Liege, who only introduced Uche Agbo in the 75th minute.

Sweden
Alhaji Gero was the hero for Oestersunds as his lone strike secured a 1-0 home win against second division club GAIS in the quarter-finals of the Swedish Cup on Sunday. He was introduced in the 66th minute and scored with four minutes remaining in the game.

Spain
Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo was on from the start before being replaced on 46 minutes as 10-man Las Palmas lost 2-0 to visiting Villarreal.

Italy
Recalled Super Eagles midfielder Joel Obi was not listed for Torino as they suffered a 3-0 bashing in Rome against Roma.

England
Kelechi Iheanacho scored his first Premier League for Leicester City – and his first in over a year – to help the Foxes beat West Brom 4-1 in the Premier League on Saturday. The 21-year old also provided an assist for one of the goals.
And at the Emirates Stadium, Alex Iwobi lasted 66 minutes for Arsenal as they recorded an impressive 3-0 win over Watford. But at Stamford Bridge, Victor Moses lasted the entire duration of the match on the bench as Chelsea beat Crystal Palace 2-1.

China
Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel lasted 90 minutes for Tianjin Teda, but couldn’t help them avoid defeat as they went down 1-0 at Henan Jianye. Meanwhile, Odion Ighalo fired blanks for Changchun Yatai as they were pummelled 5-0 by Guangzhou Evergrande, despite playing the entire duration.
Obafemi Martins was not even listed for Shanghai Shenhua in their 0-2 home defeat to Shanghai SIPG.
