Barcelona See Lead At Top Of Table Cut As Mina Makes Laliga Debut
Barcelona were held to a 0-0 draw by Getafe at Camp Nou on Sunday with January addition Yerry Mina making his full debut for the Catalans.
A scrappy first half saw Barcelona struggle to create anything with two decent chances falling to Getafe as it was goalless at the halftime. Barcelona players had a penalty appeal dismissed by referee David Fernandez Borbalan after Lionel Messi was fouled in the 18th minute.
Barca's dominance continued after the break but a resilient display by the visitors and a late super save to deny Luis Suarez by Guaita means the home side's their lead over Atletico Madrid in the league table have been trimmed to just seven points.
The Catalans who have never failed to score this season went into the game having never lost to Los Azulones at Camp Nou, although they were made to work hard for their 2-1 win earlier in the season.
SETTING THE SCENE
January signings Yerry Mina and Philippe Coutinho started for Barca and Ousmane Dembele was a substitute against Getafe, who had former France and Premier League stars Loic Remy and Mathieu Flamini on the bench following their recent moves.
Mina made his full debut, replacing Gerard Pique, who was rested with Barca's "decisive phase" of fixtures in mind, while Andres Iniesta was sacrificed for Coutinho after his goal at Valencia in the Copa del Rey semi-finals earlier in the week.
Elsewhere, left-back Lucas Digne filled in for central defender Samuel Umtiti, who was suspended, and Paco Alcacer partnered Luis Suarez up top, with Lionel Messi in behind. Dembele finally returned after a month out with another hamstring injury, occupying a place on the bench.
